Download music recording software from the Internet. (View the Resources below for one option.) If you cannot find one, locate a free program on Google and download it. Open the .exe file you downloaded to install the program onto your computer. You may need to restart your computer at the end of the installation to complete the process.
Connect your record player to your computer. Using an A/V cable, plug one side into the "Output" located at the back of your record player. (If you are using an older record player without an output for A/V cables, you will need to purchase a newer record player to complete the conversion.) Plug the other end into your computer's microphone "Input."
Open the volume control on your computer by right clicking your mouse on the volume icon near the bottom right of your desktop. Choose the option to "Open Volume Control." In the volume section for "Line In," move the cursor toward the middle so the volume coming from the record player will not be too loud or too soft.
Open the recording software you downloaded in Step 1. Choose the option so that the input for the recording software is "Line In." Place the record on your record player and prepare it for play. When ready, press "Record" on your recording software and begin playing your record. If the recording process is working, you should see small spikes on the software.
Edit your tracks using the recording software. You may have brief periods of silence before and after the tracks you are recording, in which case, simply delete them using the software. You may also want to split up the recording into various tracks like on a CD. Save each track as an MP3 file on your computer.
Burn the CD. Open your computer's burning software and insert a blank CD into your computer. Input the various MP3s you created in Step 5. Make sure they are in the correct order and press the button to "Burn" the CD. When the burning process is complete, the newly created CD will eject from your computer.
