Instructions

  1. Producing Your Piano CD

    • 1

Load up your recording software package. Connect your audio interface to the computer and attach a microphone to it, using an XLR lead. Place the microphone securely on its stand.

    • 2

Create a new song within your recording software package. Assign your microphone to a channel, or "track," then ready ("arm") the track for recording. Test the level of the recording signal by playing the piano and watching the peak monitor bar on your track. Ensure that the signal does not jump into the red, as this might lead to a distorted ripping sound ("clip") on your recording.

    • 3

After pressing "Record," play through the piece, repeating until it is performed to your satisfaction. Save your track. Repeat Step 2 for each piece you need to record. Listen through each piece to check for mistakes or clips. If you notice any such problems, rerecord your piece.

    • 4

Convert, or "bounce down," the audio files of your performances to WAV files. A WAV is an uncompressed audio file and although it is much larger than a compressed MP3, it gives a truer reflection of the audio you have recorded.

    • 5

Save your WAVs to your computer's hard drive in a clearly named folder. Give each WAV a name, such as 'My Song - FINAL FOR CD,' so you can be sure of selecting the correct file when you create your CD.

    • 6

Open your CD-burning software and import the WAVs. Decide on the running order. Insert a CDR into your computer, order the WAV files correctly and burn the CD. Listen through your CD to check it meets your requirements before making any further copies.
