Connect external audio equipment such as microphones, instruments or drum machines to the mixing board by plugging the microphone into the "phantom power" microphone slot. Connect instruments and drum machines to the back of the mixer with 1/4 inch or 1/8 inch connection cables. Only connect one instrument or microphone per channel.
Turn down all of the volume sliders on the mixer and then power it on. Check to see if the instruments and microphones are connected properly by checking for the "green" indication light on each channel. Reconnect the instrument or the microphone if there isn't an indication light.
Connect the mixing board to the computer by plugging in the USB connection cable "fitted" side into the mixer and the other end into the USB slot on the computer. Power on the microphones and other instruments then open the music creation software on the computer. Create a new file by selecting "File" from the top menu then "Add New Track."
Create as many as 10 new "Audio" tracks, "MIDI" tracks for instruments, then "arm" the tracks for recording by selecting the red "R" in the "Track Window." Turn up the volume sliders on the mixer and speak into the microphone and play instruments to make sure that you're getting a signal within the "Track Window" of the music creation software.
Press the "Record" button, which is located at the top of the screen on the "Transport" interface. Begin playing selected notes or saying the selected vocals then hit the "Stop" button when you're finished recording.
Re-record the selected audio or MIDI if you are unsatisfied with the recording. Save the project in the software by selecting "File" from the top menu then "Save."
