Compatibility refers to the ability that the device has to communicate data with a computer. The Lexicon Omega Audio Interface has been tested and verified to work with Windows XP 32 bit, Windows Vista 32 bit and 64 bit, and Windows 7 32 bit. Windows XP 64 bit is not supported, and issues have been reported with Windows 7 64 bit. Mac OSX Version 10.4 to 10.6 is tested and verified to work.
The Omega audio interface comes with inputs for two microphones using XLR cables, four inputs for quarter-inch instrument cables and jacks for both MIDI in and MIDI out using five-pin MIDI cables. Each input is assigned a volume knob to adjust the level of a connected instrument. A switch on the device allows users to increase the supplied voltage to 48 volts, called "Phantom Power," to enable the use of condenser mics that require more power than normal. A quarter-inch stereo input is located on the front of the device to plug in headphones.
The Omega interface has a maximum send and return level of +19 decibels. This means that audio that the device processes can be increased a maximum of 19 decibels. The frequency response of the device is lowered a quarter of a decibel at 20hz to 20Khz, with a spike at 1Khz. This means that sounds at 1Khz are brought out a quarter of a decibel more than sounds above or below. These specifications are independent of the connected devices. Each microphone or instrument has its own frequency response that can further affect sound.
