How to Replace a JBL 100 Monitor Cone

If your JBL 100 Monitor speakers are rattling or distorting, it is likely that you need to replace the cone. Fortunately, JBL produces a kit that enables you to replace the cone yourself. If you would prefer that an expert did the reconing, you can also send the equipment to an authorized service center that will do all the necessary repairs for you. However, this latter option may take longer and be more expensive than doing it yourself. Recone kits are available from authorized JBL resellers nationwide.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the speaker from the JBL 100 Monitor cabinet. Use the knife to carefully cut the old speaker cone away from the speaker mount. Be careful not to damage the speaker mount underneath.

    • 2

Clean off any dirt and excess debris on the mounting. Use the solvent to clean any remaining glue left over from the old cone.

    • 3

Place the JBL 100 Monitor recone kit on the speaker mounting. Align the cone with the speaker mounting so that it fits around the coil and speaker terminals. Take the recone kit away and apply glue to the relevant areas of the speaker mounting.

    • 4

Place the JBL 100 Monitor recone kit back on the speaker mounting. Press down firmly and evenly all the way around the cone to make sure the glue sets evenly. Make sure there are no air bubbles anywhere or any gaps between the cone and the speaker mounting.

    • 5

When the glues is dry, connect the speaker and test by playing a piece of audio through it. Make sure there is no excess noise when sound is played through the monitor.
