How to Make a Microphone Isolater

Dynamic microphones with cardiod polar patterns are popular in recording studios because of their ability to block out unwanted noise. While the cardiod pattern reduces sound sources from the rear and sides of the microphone, some unwanted sounds manage to get through. Further isolating the microphone will reduce the likelihood that unwanted sources will be captured. Although expensive commercial sound screens and gobos are available, DIY microphone isolation can be achieved with inexpensive materials.
