How old is the oldest folk song?

There is no definitive answer to this question as the origins of folk songs are often difficult to trace. However, some of the earliest known folk songs date back to the Middle Ages, around the 12th and 13th centuries. These songs were often passed down orally from generation to generation and varied in style and content depending on the region they originated from. Some examples of early folk songs include the English ballads "Robin Hood" and "The Wife of Usher's Well", as well as the German folk song "Die Lorelei".
