Did Hendrix play an upside down guitar?

Jimi Hendrix did indeed play an upside-down guitar. He was right-handed, but for some reason he began playing guitar with a left-handed guitar that was strung right-handed. This meant that the strings were reversed and the fingerboard was facing towards him instead of away from him.
