How to Create a Track List Song & Album Name at Home

If you've collected a pile of blank CDs with downloaded music on them, you may have found it difficult to keep them organized. Rather than thumbing through them and popping them into your CD player one at a time to find out what's on them, you should just add the album name and track list to the CD itself. You can write it directly onto the CD with a permanent marker, or print out a small "cheat sheet" to keep in the CD's case, saving you loads of time when looking for that song you want your friends to hear.

Instructions

  1. Getting the Information Manually

    • 1

Visit your favorite search engine and type in the band's name followed by the word "discography."

    • 2

Browse the artists' album catalog until you come across the album you have. Click the album's picture or name to take you to its track listing.

    • 3

Write down the album name, track numbers and track titles in their proper order, either on the CD itself or on a separate sheet of paper.

    Getting the Information Electronically

    • 4

Download and install the iTunes software application if you don't have it already.

    • 5

Open iTunes and click "Edit > Preferences" to open a pop-up dialog box.

    • 6

Check the option, under the "General" tab, that reads "automatically retrieve CD track names from the Internet." Click "OK" to save these settings.

    • 7

Insert a CD into your computer's CD/DVD ROM drive and open iTunes. The track listings, album name and artist name should be retrieved automatically, as iTunes imports the music into your library.
