Boss LMB-3 Instructions

BOSS has been a leader in guitar effects for years, and the company occasionally turns its attention to bass with stomp boxes designed to enhance the bottom end. The LMB-3 Bass Limiter Enhancer is such a product, designed to give a bassist control and polish over his performance. Housed in the standard BOSS stomp box enclosure, the LMB-3 is built to take live gig punishment.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the LMB-3 between your bass and amp using 1/4 inch phone plug audio cables. Connect the bass to the "INPUT" jack on the right of the LMB-3, and connect the amp via the "OUTPUT" jack on the left. Press the foot switch on the LMB-3 until the "CHECK" LED at the top is lit.

    • 2

Rotate all four control knobs fully counterclockwise. Rotate the "LEVEL," on the left, clockwise to about the 12 o'clock position to start.

    • 3

Rotate the "ENHANCE" knob clockwise to note how the effect changes the sound of the bass. It will add clarity and definition to the bass tone. Set the knob to a point where you are happy with the sound. At any point in the adjustment, you can move the "LEVEL" knob up or down to balance the the amounts of direct and effect sounds.

    • 4

Rotate the "RATIO" control clockwise. This sets how much compression the LMB-3 will provide when the bass signal hits the point set by the threshold, or "THSHD" control. The full counterclockwise position, "1:1," provides no effect. As the control is rotated clockwise, the amount of compression and limiting increases. This results in a sound that is increasingly even, with less fluctuation in volume.

    • 5

Rotate the "THSHD" knob clockwise to increase the point at which the LMB-3 starts to affect the signal. Adjust it to a point where it limits your loudest notes to a constant volume, but allows softer notes to occur naturally.
