Macarena Instructions

The Macarena took the world by storm in the 1990s and remains a popular line dance. Learning it is easy, as the dance is made up of simple arm movements and free-style dancing in place. The movements are dictated by the lively beat of the music, and the group aspect makes it extra fun.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand with feet shoulder-width apart. Sway with the music as you extend your right arm, parallel to the ground with your palm down. Do the same with your left arm.

    • 2

Continue to move your hips to the music as you turn your right palm up, followed by your left palm.

    • 3

Move your right hand to your left shoulder and then your left hand to your right shoulder, continuing to dance in place.

    • 4

Move your right hand to the back of your head and then your left. Your elbows should point out to the sides, even with your shoulders as you continue to dance in place to the music. Alternatively, you can move your hands down from your shoulders to your hips, right hand to left hip, then left hand to right hip.

    • 5

Place your right hand on your right hip and then your left hand on your left hip as you continue to move them to the music.

    • 6

Move your right hand further back on your hip, followed by your left hand as you continue to dance in place. Rotate your hips in time to the music and bend your knees.

    • 7

Pop up into a small jump and twist a quarter turn counterclockwise before landing on both feet. Repeat the arm movements, the jump and turn until the music is finished.
