How to Make a Decca Tree Stand

The Decca Tree is a three-sided reverse T-shape microphone holder. It provides spacious omnidirectional microphones for great sound enhancement. The Decca design spaces three microphones 1 meter from the center. (One meter is equal to 3.2808 feet.) It allows for full stereo and a center focus of sound. Creating a Decca tree is moderately easy with the proper tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure, mark and cut 6 feet of PVC pipe. Place a reminder mark at the center of your pipe. If you desire longer side microphones, cut a longer piece of pipe. Remember to put your center mark. Measure and cut a 3-foot piece of PVC pipe.

    • 2

Place your T-connector at the center point of your 6-foot pipe. Insert your 3-foot pipe into the other end of the T-connector. Once you have your T-shape at the dimensions you desire, tighten all screws.

    • 3

Remove your chosen microphone clamps from their container. Place each clamp and screw in a designated area for later use. Place marks on your Decca Tree where you would like to place the microphones. Typically, mics are placed about an 1-inch from the end, but adjust to your own personal requirements.

    • 4

Follow clamp instructions and place each clamp in its appointed place. Place your three omnidirectional microphones securely inside your mic clamp and fasten tightly. Once your Decca Tree is complete you can place a hanging kit to create an Hanging Decca Tree Stand.
