Do-It-Yourself DJ Booth

Creating your own DJ booth can make you the life of the party. Rather than hiring a professional disc jockey to provide the music and entertainment for a special event, make the DJ booth yourself with basic equipment. If you have the right music play list, with additional songs in case guests make special requests, you can play one song into the next and add your own mixes into the music with turntables. Jazz up your DJ booth with funky lights, such as lava lamps or sirens, to make it stand out.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the X-stand so that the top is wide and the bottom is sturdy. Place the DJ coffin on top to create a base for the turntables. If you do not have an X-stand, you can put the DJ coffin on any hard, flat surface, such as a table. The coffin case gives your turntables a steady place to sit and serves as a buffer between the main stand and the sound equipment.

    • 2

Set the two turntables on top of the DJ coffin case. Place the mixer between the two turntables. The mixer is the sound device into which you plug the electronics so they work together.

    • 3

Plug the turntables into the mixer's interface labeled Phono. Use the stereo cable to make the connection. Plug the turntable's power cords into the wall outlet.

    • 4

Place a laptop stand next to the turntables. The laptop stand can be a sturdy box or a homemade stand constructed from metal or wood. The laptop gives you a way to see the music that comes on so that you can continuously play songs and control the songs' intros. Set the laptop on the laptop stand. Connect the laptop to the mixer with stereo cables.

    • 5

Hook up the speakers with the stereo cables. Place the speakers on either side of your booth. If you have multiple speakers, you can set them strategically around the room.

    • 6

Cover the DJ booth with a black tablecloth to hide the bottom where people can see your feet. This gives the booth an enclosed appearance.
