Determine the length of time for the recital so you can select music that will fit within the allotted time and know how much time to book when you reserve your performing stage.
Select the music for the recital. If you have a theme in mind for your recital, base the music on the theme. Since this is a solo piano recital, avoid including music that would turn the piano into an accompaniment. Choose only works for piano alone without additional instruments such as violin, viola or voice.
Locate a building or concert hall in which to have your recital. If this is a small recital, consider holding it in your home. If the recital requires moving a piano, hire professional piano movers. Confirm a recital date with your location and pay any necessary deposits.
Create invitations announcing the recital date, time and cost of admission if there is one. Provide information about the recital theme and music to be performed. Ask audience members to RSVP through email, phone or postal mail so you can arrange seating.
Arrange for the appropriate number of seats for the recital. Place them in rows, with space in between each seat if room is available. The first seat should be at least 15 feet from the piano, if possible.
Prepare for the performance with a dress rehearsal. Run through the entire program and make sure the piano is positioned in a way that provides a full sound. You will not need a microphone, because a piano provides its own amplification. If you need more sound, lift the lid higher.
Provide refreshments for the reception afterward. Receptions provide a chance for audience members to mingle and connect with you. This helps to provide networking opportunities and give you a chance to interact with the audience.
