How to Make a Tom Cymbal Rack

Creating your own tom cymbal rack by assembling the right parts will make it possible for you to design a custom rack that suits your needs. Parts for tom cymbal racks may be purchased individually from local music dealers and online retailers. Building your own rack will require that you purchase all the parts separately and assemble them yourself. Tom cymbal racks consist of a rod, legs to hold the stand erect, and mounts to keep the tom and cymbal in place.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the rubber feet to the bottom of your drum rack stand. You may use a tiny bit of water to help lubricate the feet. Avoid using lubricants, since once the feet are attached, they should be difficult to remove.

    • 2

Attach the drum rack rod to the rack stand. Do this by twisting the rod into the threaded screw mount located on the center of the stand.

    • 3

Attach a boom arm to the side of the rack rod. Screw the rod in place about 4 inches from the top of the rod. The boom arm will extend outward at a 45-degree angle to hold your cymbals in place. Each cymbal can be attached by removing the bolt at the end of the boom, sliding the cymbal in place and replacing the bolt.

Attach the tom attachment to the top of the rack rod. The tom attachment will have three prongs that can be tightened. The tom fits directly on top of the prongs and is secured by twisting the screw underneath to increase tension.
