Connect your electronic drum pad to the output of the MPC drum machine, using a MIDI cable.
Find the audio volume using the "Main Volume" control near the top of the MPC machine on the right-hand side. Set the volume knob at a low level, approximately one-quarter of the way from the lowest setting, to avoid blowing your speakers. You can adjust the volume once you begin playing your drum machine.
Look for the "Record" button on your machine. On most models, it is a red button that can be found on the bottom-right corner of the device. Press the "Record" button to begin recording your drumming session.
Drum on your drum pad by hitting the center of the pad with your drumsticks. This will send audio data through the instrument and create a recording of your performance. Alternate between using your right and left hand to strike the drum. Hold the drumsticks loosely between your thumb and index finger, to allow the stick to bounce off the pad as it rebounds. The rebound helps you control the rhythm.
Press the "Stop" button located next to the "Record" button, when you are finished drumming.
Adjust the "Data" knob located toward the center of the device, until you find the sequence you just recorded. Press the the "Play" button to hear your recording play back.
Create a loop of your drumming by pushing the large "Play Loop" button in the middle of the MPC unit. This will play your pattern on a loop and create a continuous loop from beginning to end. You can stop the loop by pressing the "Play Loop" button again.
Enter "Song Mode" by clicking on the "Song" button on the machine. Once you have entered this mode, you can combine your sequences into a single pattern.
Select the "Convert" feature on the electronic display while in song mode, and select the sequences you want to include. Include any of your recorded loops, and play them in the order that you select them on the screen.
Choose the "Add Instrument" option in the display to choose the instrument you would like to use to play back your recorded song. You can choose from any number of drums -- including snares, bass drums, tom-toms and tenor drums.
Select the "Save" option to save your newly created song to the MPC. You will then be able to play back your drumming using the "Play" option and selecting the song.
