Why did beethoven compose eroica symphony?
Beethoven composed the Eroica symphony as a tribute to Napoleon Bonaparte, whom he admired for his military and political achievements. When Napoleon declared himself Emperor of the French in 1804, Beethoven was initially elated and dedicated the symphony to him. However, when he learned that Napoleon had become a dictator, Beethoven famously tore up the dedication page and renamed the symphony "Sinfonia Eroica" (Heroic Symphony). The symphony thus became a symbol of Beethoven's disillusionment with Napoleon and a celebration of the heroic ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity.
