How is the vibration caused in a harpsichord?

The vibration in a harpsichord is caused by the plectrum (or quill) of the jack mechanism. When a key is depressed, the jack is raised, causing the plectrum to pluck the string. The vibration of the string is then transmitted to the soundboard, which amplifies the sound.
