The Silvertone brand dates back to 1916, when Sears, Roebuck & Co. began selling musical instruments under the Silvertone name. Silvertone guitars were originally made by various manufacturers, including Harmony, Kay, and Regal, but production moved overseas in the late 20th century.
In the early 2010s, Silvertone guitars were relaunched by Washburn, which began producing a variety of acoustic and electric guitars under the Silvertone name. These guitars are made in Washburn's factory in China and are distributed worldwide.
