How do you sanitize a flute?

Here are the steps to properly sanitize a flute:

1. Disassemble the flute: Unscrew the headjoint, body, and foot joint. Be careful not to lose the small parts, such as the key screws and springs.

2. Rinse the flute with warm water: Use filtered or distilled water to rinse the flute inside and out. This will help to remove any dirt or debris.

3. Wash the flute with mild dish soap: Add a few drops of mild dish soap to a bowl of warm water and use a soft cloth to wash the flute. Be sure to get into all the nooks and crannies.

For extra sanitation, you can soak the flute in a diluted bleach solution:

1. Mix one part household bleach with ten parts water.

2. Place the flute disassembled into the bleach solution for 15 minutes.

3. Rinse the flute thoroughly with clean water.

4. Dry the flute with a soft cloth: Be sure to dry the flute thoroughly to avoid any water damage.

5. Reassemble the flute: Screw the headjoint, body, and foot joint back together. Be sure to tighten the screws snugly, but not too tightly.

6. Apply key oil to the flute: Apply a small amount of key oil to the flute keys and springs. This will help to keep the keys moving smoothly and prevent corrosion.

Be sure to sanitize your flute regularly to keep it clean and in good condition. This will help to extend the life of the flute and prevent the spread of bacteria and viruses.
