The bassoon is a double reed woodwind instrument, while the flute is a woodwind instrument played by blowing air across a hole. The embouchure (lip placement) and airstream required for playing the bassoon are quite different from those required for playing the flute, so learning to play the bassoon will not be any easier for someone who has already learned to play the flute. In fact, it may even be more difficult, as the bassoon is generally considered to be a more challenging instrument to learn than the flute.
