1. Ensure your oboe is properly assembled and tuned.
2. Place your embouchure (mouth position) on the reed, covering about one-third to one-half of the reed with your lower lip.
3. Blow air into the oboe while simultaneously pressing down the C key with your left thumb.
4. Adjust your embouchure and air pressure until you produce a clear and stable C note.
5. Use your fingers to press down on the appropriate keys to play other notes in the C major scale.
