What is the musical instrument called a steel pan?
A steel pan is also known as a steel drum. It is a musical instrument that originated from Trinidad and Tobago. It is made from a 55 US gallon steel oil drum that is cut into two parts and then hammered into different shapes. The dents and ridges create different pitches and notes, and the pan is played by hitting the different areas with mallets. Steel pans are often used in calypso and soca music, and are popular instruments in Caribbean and Latin American music.
