What is a waisted drum?

A waisted drum is a percussion instrument that is typically made of wood or metal and is shaped like an hourglass. It is played by striking the drum head with a stick, hand or beater, and the sound produced is a low-pitched, booming sound. Waisted drums are often used in African, Caribbean and Latin music, and are also popular in marching bands and orchestras.
