What is an Eb trumpet?

The Eb trumpet is a member of the brass family of instruments. It is very closely related to the Bb trumpet, but plays a full tone lower. The Eb trumpet is pitched in Eb, one whole tone below the standard Bb trumpet. It plays music as written, without any transposition.

Eb trumpets are used in concert bands, marching bands, and orchestras, jazz bands, and other types of musical ensembles. They are also popular solo instruments.

The Eb trumpet is slightly smaller than the Bb trumpet, with a bore that is about 0.460 inches (11.684 mm) in diameter. The mouthpiece is also smaller than the Bb trumpet mouthpiece.

The Eb trumpet has a mellower and warmer sound than the Bb trumpet. It is also more difficult to play, due to the smaller size and higher pitch.

Some famous players of the Eb trumpet include Adolph Herseth, Maurice André, and Wynton Marsalis.
