Who created the ukulele?

The ukulele was invented around the 1870s by Portuguese immigrants to Hawaii, who were inspired by the Portuguese instrument called the machete, along with the Spanish vihuela and cavaquinho. The first ukuleles were made in the 1880s by Manuel Nunes, who is widely credited as the father of the ukulele.
