Why was the gramophone record invented?

To reproduce sound

Emile Berliner invented the gramophone record in 1887, and it was first commercially released in 1889. The gramophone record was a major breakthrough in the history of sound reproduction, as it allowed for the recording and playback of sound for the first time. This paved the way for the development of the phonograph, the radio, and other devices that have shaped the way we listen to music and communicate today.
