How do you change the pitch of wind instruments?

Wind instruments produce sound when air is blown across an opening, causing it to vibrate. The pitch of the sound is determined by the length of the air column inside the instrument. To change the pitch, you can either change the length of the air column or change the amount of air pressure being applied to it.

To change the length of the air column, you can:

- Use a slide or a piston to extend or shorten the length of the tube

- Use a key to open or close a hole in the tube, which changes the effective length of the tube

To change the amount of air pressure being applied, you can:

- Blow more or less air into the instrument

- Use your embouchure (the way you shape your mouth) to change the way the air flows through the instrument

By combining these two techniques, you can produce a wide range of pitches on a wind instrument.
