How much music was a baroque composer expected to write?
Baroque composers were prolific, and were often under pressure to produce a large amount of music. It was not unusual for a composer to write:
- 52 cantatas per year
- 20 orchestral suites
- 20 concerti grossi
- 1 grand psalm cycle with 150 psalm settings
- 100 church sonatas
- 5 grand passions
