How to Organize Music

The organization of music is the categorization of music based on specific properties, such as genre. You may have many different music preferences and styles. However, organizing your music will allow you to find it faster and more efficiently. You can organize music in the form of playlists or by creating separate piles of CDs. In order to organize music, separate the different genres, listen to the songs, separate each artist, and then alphabetize the songs.

Instructions

    • 1

Separate the songs based on their genres. The different music genres include alternative, blues, Christian and gospel, classical, dance, easy listening, electronic, hip hop/rap, jazz, heavy metal, pop, R&B, reggae, rock, soundtrack and vocal. You can find out the genre of the songs on a CD by looking online. Create a separate playlist for each genre.

    • 2

Listen to the individual songs as you organize them. For example, a particular CD may be under the electronic genre, but a certain song on that CD may sound more like a pop song. Therefore, you may decide to move this song to the playlist you created for pop songs.

    • 3

Categorize the songs within each genre playlist by artist. For example, if you have an entire playlist with pop songs, list the songs according to the artist.

    • 4

Alphabetize the songs. Putting your music in alphabetical order will make it easier for you to find. For example, after you have categorized your pop playlist based on the names of the artists, put the songs of each artist in alphabetical order.
