What does concertmaster mean?

In music, a concertmaster (also known as a leader) is the first violinist in an orchestra. The concertmaster has several responsibilities, including but not limited to:

- Tuning the orchestra

- Leading the orchestra in rehearsals and performances

- Giving cues to the other musicians

- Playing solos

- Assisting the conductor

The concertmaster is typically the most experienced and skilled violinist in the orchestra. They are often highly respected by their colleagues and are considered to be leaders of the orchestra.
