Caribbean Music Events and Festivals

The Caribbean Islands have long been a destination for vacationers. With the white, sandy beaches and beautiful waters, the islands offer much to do when it comes to activities and parties. Many of the islands have music events and festivals that are enjoyable for the local residents as well as visitors. No matter what island you choose, you can be sure to catch some great music, and these are just a few.
  1. Saint Thomas Carnival

    • The Saint Thomas Carnival takes place in April and has been a yearly event since 1952. It is a month-long festival that includes local food, pageants, parades and music that is full of island spirit and tradition. Calypso music is one of the most important features of Carnival. There are various Calypso competitions during the event that draw musicians from all over the islands and a children's Calypso competition. Other types of music performed at Carnival include steel pan bands and other performances by local village bands, and music is always performed during the parades.

    Saint Lucia Jazz Festival

    • The Saint Lucia Jazz festival has become one of the most anticipated Caribbean events. It takes place in May and has attracted well known musicians from all around the world. Started 20 years ago, the festival has a variety of shows including acoustic jazz, new age jazz, fusion jazz and R&B. The shows range from large performances in concert halls to smaller, late night outdoor venues, as well as club performances and picnic style events. It is a 10-day event that staggers performances on a schedule starting in the afternoon and lasting until the evening.

    The British Virgin Island Music Fest

    • This is a three-day event that takes place in May each year on the British Island of Tortola. It was started 10 years ago and features a variety of musical genres including reggae, salsa, blues and gospel. It starts at 6 p.m. in the evening and lasts until about 3 a.m. with performances taking place on Cane Garden Bay beach. There are numerous performances each day enjoyed and supported by locals and visitors. Plenty of local food is available at the event.

    The Aruba Soul Beach Music Festival

    • The Aruba Soul Beach Music Festival was started 10 years ago and takes place on Memorial Day Weekend with five days of musical performances. The variety of artists perform in the evening on the main stage, in night clubs and also some daytime performances that take place on the beach and include live radio broadcasts. The musical genres range from soul and R&B to rap and hip hop. It is known to be an event that is more geared for adults than families and children.
