Place the record into its paper sleeve and cardboard album jacket anytime that it is not in use.
Store record albums in areas that are cool, dry and clean. Sunlight, heat, moisture and humidity can cause tremendous damage over time.
Place your record albums upright without any slant while storing them if possible. If you aren't able to store them this way, the next best method is to stack them horizontally with no more than 15 to 20 albums per stack.
Clean your record if necessary before storing it. You can buy cleaners especially for records at most local music stores. Another option is to use a soft, dry rag to wipe off dust or fingerprints. You also can use a soft rag that is moistened with mild liquid soap and water to clean heavier dirt or grime. Rinse the record under running water while positioning the paper label in the middle away from the stream of water so that it doesn't get wet. If you dampen your record to clean it, dry it thoroughly with a soft rag before returning it to its cover.
