How to Remove the Hum Noise With Audacity

Removing the hum noise from a recording using Audacity can be a difficult process. However, it is possible, since a hum is a frequency generally below 50 hertz. In most cases, the hum can be removed quickly using a high pass filter. High pass filters will remove frequencies below the frequency you specify. Anything above the frequency you specify gets a "pass" and will not be affected by this tool.

Instructions

    • 1

Drag your audio file into Audacity and prepare it for editing.

    • 2

Open the "Effect" menu at the top of the screen and select "High Pass Filter..."

    • 3

Change the "Filter quality..." option to 0.5.

    • 4

Modify the "Cutoff frequency (Hz)" option, so that it reads 55 and press "OK."
