What kind of services does the American Legion do?

American Legion Programs:

Americanism: Promotes patriotism and civic responsibility; supports Constitutional principles; sponsors American Legion Baseball and Boys State programs; donates American flags to schools and other organizations.

Children & Youth: Provides financial assistance and support to children and families of veterans and servicemembers; awards scholarships to children of deceased veterans; operates summer camps for children of military personnel.

Community Service: Organizes and participates in community service projects, such as blood drives, food banks, and disaster relief efforts; provides assistance to veterans and their families in need; supports local schools and youth programs.

Economic: Offers employment assistance to veterans and transitioning servicemembers; provides career counseling, job fairs, and networking opportunities; assists veterans with starting their own businesses.

Healthcare: Advocates for improved healthcare services for veterans; provides information and support to veterans and their families on accessing VA healthcare benefits; operates VA hospitals and clinics.

Legislative Affairs: Monitors and advocates for legislation affecting veterans and military personnel; works with Congress and the White House to ensure that the needs of veterans and their families are met.

Membership: Recruits and retains members; organizes and supports local American Legion posts; provides members with access to benefits and services, including discounts, insurance, and travel programs.

Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation: Assists veterans in obtaining VA benefits, including compensation, pensions, education, and healthcare; provides representation and advocacy for veterans and their families; operates VA medical centers and clinics.
