Why is the Battle of Little Bighorn also called Last Stand?

The battle known as the Battle of Little Bighorn is not commonly called the Last Stand. That name usually refers to the Battle of the Alamo in Texas, fought in 1836, where a small group of Texan rebels held off a much larger Mexican army for days before being overwhelmed and defeated.
