Apply colored tape to your flute to show off your school spirit in marching band, whether you're in a parade or on the football field. Many brands of vinyl tape come in a rainbow of colors, so it should be easy to find a couple of rolls in your school colors. Put stripes around the head joint, wrap the entire head joint or coat your entire flute except the keys and embouchure plate.
Wrap the head joint in stripes of red and green or red, green and gold to decorate your Yamaha flute for Christmas concerts. Hang a silver or gold tassel from the last key on the foot joint or secure a gift bow on the crown by opening it slightly and pinching ribbon ends inside as you screw it closed. Use blue and white decorations for Hanukkah concerts, black and orange for Halloween shows and pastels for Easter celebrations.
Apply colored tape or stickers to personalize your flute year-round. Choose one of the many colored or patterned tapes available to create a striped or spiral pattern on the head joint. Cover the body and foot joint with stickers of flowers, hearts or football team logos. Cut spots to make a leopard or Dalmatian flute, or stripes for a zebra effect. Buy sticky jewels made for cell phones to give your flute a glitzy bling look.
Remove all the tape and stickers carefully when you want to change the look. Use only your fingers, not sharp objects. To remove small bits of tape or sticky glue, place a small amount of nonabrasive glue remover on a soft cloth and rub it onto the flute. The cleaner will dissolve the glue, and your flute will be smooth again. Wipe the surface with a soapy cloth and then a clean, dry rag to remove any cleaner residue.
