How to Mount the DEG HC250 Lyre onto a Trombone

For trombone players in a marching band, there are few things more annoying and tiring than having to hold your music with one hand, balance your instrument on your shoulder and move the slide with your other hand. Thankfully, most band directors distribute lyres to their band members, and even if your band director doesn't do this free of charge, lyres are very affordable to purchase online or at a local music store. The DEG HC250 trombone lyre is well known, particularly in college marching bands, for its convenient non-slip design. Once mounted on a trombone bell, the lyre allows you to play normally, with both hands on the horn.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the lyre with the clamps facing toward you and the screws facing away from you. Untwist the screws so that the clamps are all the way open.

    • 2

Secure your trombone so it won't fall while you're attaching the lyre. The bell should be facing toward the ground.

    • 3

Slide the clamps over the rim of the bell on the right side, next to the slide. Adjust the lyre so it is roughly an inch away from the slide, enough to allow free movement of the slide without hitting the lyre.

    • 4

Twist the screws until the clamps are firmly attached to the bell. They should be tight enough that you can't move the lyre at all by wiggling it around. Grasp the lyre tightly with your hand and test it to make sure it's tight enough.
