What started Guns Roses?

The formation of Guns N' Roses can be traced back to the early 1980s when two bands from Los Angeles, Hollywood Rose and L.A. Guns, merged to form a new group.

Hollywood Rose

Hollywood Rose was formed in 1983 by guitarist Izzy Stradlin and drummer Steven Adler. The band also included vocalist Axl Rose and bassist Ole Beich. Hollywood Rose gained a small following in the Los Angeles area, but they struggled to achieve mainstream success.

L.A. Guns

L.A. Guns was formed in 1983 by guitarist Tracii Guns and vocalist Rob Gardner. The band also included bassist Mick Cripps and drummer Nickey Alexander. L.A. Guns achieved some success in the Los Angeles area, but they also struggled to break through to a wider audience.

The Merger

In 1985, Hollywood Rose and L.A. Guns decided to merge to form a new band. The new group took the name Guns N' Roses and consisted of Axl Rose (vocals), Izzy Stradlin (guitar), Tracii Guns (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass), and Steven Adler (drums).

Early Success

Guns N' Roses quickly gained popularity in the Los Angeles area. The band's raw, aggressive sound and Axl Rose's distinctive vocal style resonated with audiences. In 1986, the band signed with Geffen Records and released their debut album, "Appetite for Destruction."

Appetite for Destruction

"Appetite for Destruction" was a massive success. The album sold over 18 million copies in the United States and produced several hit singles, including "Welcome to the Jungle," "Sweet Child o' Mine," and "Paradise City." Guns N' Roses became one of the biggest rock bands in the world.

Controversy and Decline

Despite their success, Guns N' Roses were plagued by controversy. The band's members were known for their excessive drug and alcohol use, and their concerts were often marred by violence. In 1991, the band released two albums, "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II," but these albums failed to live up to the expectations set by "Appetite for Destruction."

Breakup

In 1993, Guns N' Roses broke up. Axl Rose was the only original member to continue with the band, and he recruited a new lineup of musicians. The new Guns N' Roses released several albums, but they never achieved the same level of success as the original lineup.

Reunion

In 2016, Guns N' Roses reunited with their original lineup for a series of concerts. The reunion was a massive success, and the band has continued to tour together since then.
