Call local quick-print companies to find out their price for black-and-white copies and color copies. Ask for the prices using plain white paper and using colored paper. Use the prices to determine your budget. Decide which type of copying and paper you will use.
Open Microsoft Word on your computer. Under File click on "Page Setup." Then click on "Layout" and select "Landscape."
Set margins while you are still in the Layout menu. Top, Bottom and Left margin should all be 1/2 inch. The Right margin should be 6 inches. This will give you the dimensions and margins to create concert handbills that are 1/2-sheet size.
Type the name of your band at the top. Use a large font size and center so that the name fills the area between the left and right margins.
Select "Insert" from the menu to place a digital photo of the band on the handbill. You may use a logo here instead if your band prefers a graphic.
Type the date and time of the concert under the photo using a medium size font. Type the location of the concert on the next line using a medium size font. Type the address of the concert location on the very next line using a smaller font.
You should have about 1/3 of the page left to type in the ticket price and where tickets can be purchased. Type in information about any concert sponsor or benefit details on the last line of the page.
Save the file as a Word document. You may play with the font style and sizes now to add visual interest to the page. Save the final version.
Proofread your handbill carefully. Correct any errors. Save the correct file onto a CD or USB memory stick.
Take your CD or USB memory stick to the quick print and copy company. Tell them that you want black-and-white copies printed "Two-up" on colored paper. They can set up the page so that you get two concert handbills from each sheet of paper. Ask them to use their paper cutter on the final copies.
