Select a spot with a large, flat surface outdoors or indoors where you don't mind making a mess. Spread sheets of unfolded newspaper out along the floor to protect your painting surface.
Cut a 10-foot sheet off a roll of butcher paper and lay it on top of the newspaper. Alternatively, you may purchase a canvas and lay it on the floor on top of the newspaper.
Mix five or more colors of acrylic paint into bowls or individual plastic squeeze bottles so that one color goes into each bottle or bowl.
Brainstorm ideas on what you want to create. Look at Jackson Pollock paintings for inspiration and familiarity with the style of paint-splat painting. Express your emotion through the painting activity. Squeeze paint onto paper or canvas one color at a time. Experiment with a few different splatter techniques. Drop paint onto paper in blobs and lift canvas to cause paint to roll down the paper or canvas.
Dip a brush into the paint bowls, one color at a time and fling the brush towards the canvas, while holding the handle. Thrust the paint onto the paper in a range of motions to create different splatter patterns.
Create additional designs and motion in your paint splatter by using your hands, fingers and even toes to draw lines on the canvas or paper. Remember that there are no rules to splatter painting; turn on music and express yourself through paint.
