The Lodi Community Band performs a year round schedule of concerts including a free Christmas show at Hutchins Street Square, the city's community arts center. The band is a volunteer organization open to musicians of all ages. Retired professional musicians and music teachers lead the ranks. The Christmas concert generally features a line up of traditional seasonal music.
St. John's Episcopal Church performs an Advent concert as part of its Arts at St. John's music program. Since 1999, the church has been holding concerts featuring its own musicians and choirs as well as guest performers such as Talisman, a world music choir from Stanford University, and performers from the Paul Winter Consort. The holiday concert features classical organ pieces and vocal arrangements performed by the church choir. Tickets are sold at the church and there is a discount for students.
Robert Tan, musical director for the Lodi Academy, launched the Lodi Children Choir 24 years ago in order to give all kids age 5 to 17 a chance to sing. The community choir has since been expanded and now includes a youth chorale. The chorus usually performs two Christmas shows featuring classic holiday pieces, at the English Oaks Seventh-Day Adventist Church, and the Zion Reformed Church, both in Lodi. Both concerts are free, but audiences are asked to consider making a good-will donation at the door.
The Stockton Chorale, a 120-member community chorus for voices of all ages, has been singing together for more than 60 years. Based in Stockton, about 13 miles from Lodi, members come from many of the surrounding communities. The chorale presents an annual Christmas concert with several performances, often including one in Lodi. Over the past few years, the chorale has performed George Frideric Handel's "Messiah" and traditional carols. Lodi concerts are usually held at St. John's Episcopal Church and the Hutchins Street Square performance center.
Many regional arts organizations perform at Lodi's Hutchins Street Square, a performing arts theater and community center. The U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West has performed Christmas concerts as well as Lodi's Community Band and Children's Chorus. Holiday concerts begin in late November and many are free.
