Open the base of your hi-hat stand by pulling the legs apart to create the feet.
Place your bottom cymbal upside down on the hi-hat stand so the post of the stand passes through the center hole of the cymbal.
Open your hi-hat clutch by grabbing the two halves and twisting them open. The clutch will separate into two pieces, the base portion and the clutch portion. The base portion will hold your top hi-hat to the clutch while the clutch grabs onto the post of the hi-hat stand.
Place the base portion through the center hole of your top hi-hat from underneath.
Thread the clutch portion back on to the base portion to attach the cymbal to the hi-hat clutch.
Slide the hi-hat cymbal and clutch onto the stand post through the small hole in the hi-hat clutch. The top cymbal should rest on the bottom cymbal forming the closed hi-hat.
Press down slightly on the hi-hat stand pedal to bring down the stand post.
Hold the post down with your foot and finger tighten the clutch screw. This will attach the top hi-hat to the stand post. Let go of the foot pedal and the top cymbal should raise slightly off the bottom cymbal. Now when you press down on the hi-hat pedal, it will close and open when you release it.
