How to Host a Rap Concert

Hosting a rap concert is no different than hosting any other type of concert. Whether the venue is a public location or a private house, the same care needs to be taken. The proper legal protection must be secured, as well as filing the proper paperwork for holding a public event. Depending on the type of rap concert being presented, there might be a specific need for security. The reputation of rap concerts is notorious in the law enforcement community, due to the number of altercations that have occurred in the past.

Instructions

    • 1

Secure a venue. Contact the owners of a concert hall, ballroom or even a house. Find out what the fee is, if any, to book the space. Also, block out a specified time that you would like to book the space for. Contact an insurance company that provides public liability insurance. Different municipalities may have specific requirements regarding insurance. Also, secure any necessary business permits from the local municipality.

    • 2

Book a rap act, or rap artist. Make a list of talent that you would like to have perform at the concert. You will need a list with multiple options as the rap artist may, or may not, be available for the time you scheduled your venue. Contact the booking agent of the rap artist to find out his fees, availability and other requirements.

    • 3

Promote the concert to the rap artist's fan base. You will likely book a rap artist that everyone knows in the region where your show will be held. If the rap artist is nationally known, it will be much easier to promote. In addition to promoting the concert to the rap artist's fan base, try to win over new fans. Offer free tickets to community groups, or have contest giveaways at local clubs to help generate interest.

    • 4

Arrange for travel, concert expenses and any unpaid monies owed for the rap artist. Also hire security for the artist if he doesn't have his own. Security at the concert will also be necessary if the venue does not provide its own in-house security.

    • 5

Make sure the sound and lighting system at the venue is sufficient for the show. If the venue does not have its own sound and lighting system, you will have to contact a rental company and rent the equipment.

    • 6

Oversee the show on the day of the concert. Make sure the rap artist arrives at his accommodations in time to be prepared for the show. Make sure the artist performs a sound check and that all of the technical aspects of the show are in place. See that the show starts on time, if possible.
