How long has house music been around?

The exact origins of house music are unclear, but it is widely regarded to have emerged in the early 1980s in the gay clubs of Chicago, United States. House music is a genre of electronic dance music characterized by a repetitive four-on-the-floor beat, prominent basslines, and extensive use of synthesizers and drum machines. It is believed that the genre originated in the warehouse parties of Chicago, where DJs would play extended sets of disco music, often remixing and adding their own percussion tracks. These parties became known as "house" parties, and the music played there became known as "house music". Over time, house music evolved and spread to other cities and countries, eventually becoming a global phenomenon.
