When was Digital Audio Tape created?

The development of Digital Audio Tape (DAT) began in the early 1980s, driven by the desire for a higher-quality alternative to analog audio cassette tapes. Several companies, including Sony, Philips, and Matsushita, collaborated on the development of the DAT format.

In 1987, the DAT format was officially launched in Japan, marking its commercial introduction to the market. Later that same year, DAT players and recorders became available in other parts of the world, including Europe and the United States.
