Who invented reggae?

There is no single person who "invented" reggae. It evolved from several forms of Jamaican music, including mento, calypso, R&B, and jazz. In the late 1960s, Jamaican DJs like U-Roy and I-Roy began experimenting with dub-style mixing techniques, which created a new form of Jamaican music that would come to be known as reggae. The term "reggae" was first used in a song by Toots and the Maytals in 1968, and was popularized by Bob Marley and his band The Wailers in the early 1970s. So, while many musicians, record producers, and sound engineers contributed to the creation of reggae, it is not correct to say that any one person is the inventor of the genre.
