What is the movie High School Musical about?

High School Musical is a 2006 American musical romantic comedy film produced by Disney Channel. The film stars Zac Efron as Troy Bolton, a high school basketball star, and Vanessa Hudgens as Gabriella Montez, a shy, intelligent transfer student. The two meet at a New Year's Eve party and discover that they share a love of singing. They decide to audition for the high school musical, but their relationship is put to the test when Troy's friends and teammates try to sabotage their chances.
