The Best Way to Make an MP3 CD

While iPods and other digital music players are the most identifiable ways to enjoy your personal MP3 collection, there are also CD players that can play MP3s off of a CD. While having less capacity of modern digital players, MP3 CD discs can be very useful, especially in vehicles that have CD players that can play MP3 files. But what's the best way to get your MP3 collection onto an optical disc? It's an easy process but requires a little bit of preparation beforehand.

Instructions

  1. Organize Your MP3s

    • 1

Create a folder and name it "MP3 CD."

    • 2

Create sub-folders under the main "MP3 CD" folder using the names of your music albums and copy the MP3 tracks that you want to burn into those album folders.

    • 3

Create sub-folders that organize your albums by genre, artist or whatever you want to organize your albums by and move the album folders into them.

    • 4

Right-click on the "MP3 CD" folder and select "Properties". Make sure that the folder is not larger than the capacity of the CD, usually 650-700 megabytes. If you have too much music, remove individual tracks or albums until you reach the limit.

    Burn Your MP3s to CD

    • 5

Launch your CD burning software and select the option to burn a normal "Data" CD.

    • 6

Select the folders immediately under the main "MP3 CD" folder to add that to the list of files that will be burned to the CD. Don't add the "MP3 CD" folder itself as that will add an extra layer of navigation.

    • 7

Burn the MP3s to your CD. Select the option to "Verify" once the CD is burned to make sure that nothing was corrupted during the process. Your MP3 CD is now ready to play.
