How to Create a MIDI From a WAV

Creating a MIDI file from a WAV can prove helpful in the music transcription process. WAV-to-MIDI conversion software recognizes the notes and chords represented in an audio file and renders them into MIDI format that you can easily notate or use for other playback purposes. Instrumental music works best for this process, but some WAV-to-MIDI converters are able even to accurately depict music containing vocals.

      Download a MIDI-to-WAV conversion software if you have not done so already.

      Run your MIDI-to-WAV conversion software and click "Open File" from the "File" tab on the menu bar.

      Open the WAV file you wish to convert to MIDI. Using the file browser option, find the WAV file within any applicable enclosing folders.

      Choose the instrument sound your MIDI rendition will assume, such as guitar or piano. Select any applicable filters or effects if your WAV-to-MIDI conversion software provides any.

      Push the "Convert to MIDI" button on the interface dashboard. Select "Save As" from the "File" tab on the menu bar if your WAV-to-MIDI conversion software has no "Convert" button. Be sure to choose a file name and select "MIDI" or ".mid" as the desired file time before accepting the file conversion.
